History
The Russian enterprise OAO Uralchimplast was established in 1938. It later emerged as one of the leading market participants in the Russian chemical industry, which can be primarily attributed to its acquisition by the Austrian firm UCP Chemicals AG.
The main production plant of UCP Chemicals AG in Nizhniy Tagil, OAO Uralchimplast, was founded in 1938 under the name "Torfochimzavod", and originally processed phenolic waste from a gas generator plant. In the 1940s, Uralchimplast began to produce and process plastics for the arms industry. The 1950s marked the conversion of the factory to fulfilling civilian needs, and the company began exporting its products in the 1960s. The company was privatized and converted into an open joint stock company in 1992. In 1995, UCP Chemicals AG (formerly Uralchimplast-Beteiligungs AG) acquired a majority stake in OAO Uralchimplast. The company took an initial step towards tapping international capital markets by carrying out a private placement designed to finance growth projects.
